Determination – Amazing art in year 3
Tue 24 Sep 2024We are very lucky to have so many amazing artists in our school. Year 3 have been working hard looking at the skills needed to accurately draw portraits and self-portraits. They have been exploring a range of ways of drawing them and have been using a range of materials. This week, they were using charcoal. I was amazed by the detail in Nancy’s picture and had to share it. What a fantastic effort!

Curiosity and Enjoyment – Year 4 trip to Connisbrough Castle
Tue 24 Sep 2024Year 4 had a super (and very sunny) trip to Connisbrouigh Castle this week. The children had the opportunity to explore the castle grounds, see different parts of the castle in real life to support their understanding and find out about the importance of Connisbrough Castle in history. They also had a superb workshop where they got to look at and explore different artefacts belonging to people who would have lived at that time. The children had to match the objects with the people and explain why they reached their decision. A great way to bring history to life and a fantastic way to enrich the subject.

Determination – Boys’ tournament
Tue 24 Sep 2024A huge well done to the year 5 and 6 boys, who attended the tournament last Saturday. They all showed an enormous amount of determination. There were lots of school who entered and it is always very competitive. The boys battled through the group stages, won a nervy penalty shootout in the semi-final (well done to Finn who saved 3 penalties) and reached the tournament final. They came up against a very strong Heyman side who won 1-0 on the day. A superb effort. Thank you to Mr. Shelley for coaching the boys on the day and to the parents for supporting the event.

Caring for each other - Jeans for Genes
Tue 24 Sep 2024The children always attend three assemblies in a week as well as opportunities given for reflection in class too. We talked to the children about Jeans for Genes in my assembly this week. I asked the children to share what they could remember about Jeans for Genes. We have been supporting the charity for many years and it was pleasing that so many could offer up what the charity odes and who it supports. I also asked the children to challenge themselves to think about why we talk about it in assembly too. After quite a lot of discussion, we all agreed that it was important for us all to have awareness about genetic disorders and awareness helps us to understand how we can support people living with genetic disorders. We also shared that it is likely that they will meet a range of different people in their lives and having awareness of different needs helps us to grow as individuals. It was a super assembly and the children were very engaged once again.

Enjoyment – Year 1 Drumba
Wed 18 Sep 2024It was great to see the Drumba sets being used this week by the children in year 1. They were all thoroughly enjoying taking part in the Drumba session and following along with the Drumba instructor. It is a fantastic and fun way to get fit and the children all love it. Well done to all the year 1 children who were showing off some seriously good Drumba skills.

Enjoyment and Curiosity – Year 2 Planetarium visit
Wed 18 Sep 2024It was fantastic to see the Planetarium in yesterday. It is always a magnificent site when it is set up in the hall and the children in year 2 were very excited. They spent time in the Planetarium learning about (and seeing) all the planets and different constellations in space. It is a fantastic way to bring their topic to life and a super experience for all the children. It was lovely listening to them singing their space song too this week. I hope some of the parents have hear snippets of this at home too.

Reflection – assembly this week
Wed 18 Sep 2024We were delighted to welcome Terry and Charlie back to school this week. Terry came in to talk to the children to remind them about what they should do if they see a blind person with a guide dog in the community. He also shared some of the adventures he had been on recently. Terry has been coming to Lady Bay for over 10 years and we now the only school in Nottingham that he continues to visit. We are his favourite!! We use our assemblies to enhance our work on personal development and inviting speakers like Terry in ensures our children see and hear from members of the community that they may not interact with. This helps to break down barriers and further develops our children as positive citizens of the future.

Determination – Foundation new starters
Wed 18 Sep 2024A huge well done to the foundation children who started this week. They have had a really calm and settled start at Lady Bay. They have been working hard and making new friends already. It was great to see them staying for lunch too. We are looking forward to having them for full days from next week

Determination – Arthur’s amazing design
Wed 18 Sep 2024There was a completion at the end of summer which was arranged by Richard Whitehead. He set children across Nottinghamshire the challenge of designing blades that he could wear when he is running. There were lots of entries and we were incredibly proud of Arthur who was runner up. Arthur left year 6 last year and his brother Wilf is still in school. We wanted to share this as Arthur made such an amazing effort. What an incredible design!

Curiosity and Enjoyment – Year 6 play Pok-a-Tok
Wed 18 Sep 2024It was great to see the year 6 children enjoying their hook for their topic on the Mayans. We try to start each until with something that will engage and capture the children’s imagination and make them want to learn more about the subject. The children in year 6 were learning how to play Pok-a-Tok. They were given a set of rules and had to create the game themselves albeit a little less gruesome than the game was in Mayan times.
