Be ready – Boys’ and Girls’ football
Fri 24 Jan 2025The year 5 and 6 girls and boys played football teams played St Edmund Campion this week. The Mrs. Hewitt took an additional development team. All three teams were fantastic and won their games. The boys won 4-0 against a very good team. The girls’ development team won 4-1 and the girls’ team won 8-1. All of the footballers showed our school values throughout and were fantastic as a team and behaved impeccably. Well done team Lady Bay

Caring for each other – Assembly this week
Fri 24 Jan 2025We used our assembly to talk to the children about an opportunity coming up in school to become Young Interpreter. Mrs James leads on supporting children with an additional language in school and we are going to join the Young Interpreters. He role will include buddying up with new children starting school (whether they are from abroad or not) and taking new parents on tours to explain what we do at Lady Bay. The scheme helps develop confidence, communication and leadership skills. Children will have to apply to be a Young Interpreter and there will be training for the children and Mrs James cannot wait to get started.

Growing together – OPAL play
Fri 24 Jan 2025It has been really lovely being out every lunchtime to se the different types of play happening in school. It is also really lovely to see the siblings and friends from across the school playing together too. There is such a lovely atmosphere at lunchtime now. Thank you to all the play team and in particular Mr Dearnley for their hard work so far.
The play team will be meeting on Wednesday to talk through the current provision and what the nest steps are to make lunchtimes even more fun. We have removed the paint from the craft area and are rethinking it at present as it is fair to say on Thursday there was a little bit of a mess in the reading hut.
We undertook some pupil voice this week and the vast majority of it was very positive about OPAL. Here is a section of the responses:
Tabitha in year 6 stated, “Dodgeball is really fun. The tyres make a good obstacle course.”
Ada in year 4 stated, “I like playing with anyone and the new things like the scooters, the suitcases, the music wall.”
A child in lower school stated, “I like all of the equipment. My favourite is making a den by far.”
We have also had feedback that some find it a bit frustrating that the equipment gets filled up quite quickly and this is something we are reflecting on to see what more we can get out for the children

Be ready – Boys’ football tournament
Fri 24 Jan 2025The boys’ football team entered a tournament this week ran by Notts County. There were 7 teams from across the city and county. The boys played 6 games in the group stage. Winning 5 and drawing the final game. They didn’t concede a goal either. In the semi-final they won 1-0 winning the game by scoring a penalty. In the final, they played Barnaby Road, who they drew in the group stage with. The boys were excellent and won the final 2-1. The team will now represent Notts County in a Regional tournament in March (in Swindon!). A super effort from all the boys

Growing together – School council
Fri 24 Jan 2025Our amazing school council (led by Mrs Coney) met this week to discuss issues they have noticed in school. The school council act as a conduit from all the children in school to Mrs Coney and have the potential to make real changes. Feedback from the council was as follows
- Councillors were very happy that their suggestion of jobs and additional responsibility around school was being met. They are looking forward to seeing their classmates take on new roles and felt encouraged that they were being listened to and their ideas acted upon.
- All members were really enjoying the frequent times table sessions and felt as though they were really helping their confidence and fluency. The range of strategies, games, chants and activities are keeping the sessions fun and engaging. Children can see this helping them in their daily maths sessions.
- Overall, the School Councillors fed back that their classes were really enjoying OPAL play. They loved the freedom to go anywhere and assess risks for themselves. The tidy up time is giving them increased responsibilities. Members felt as though while there are some aspects that still need sorting, they know that it is a long-term process. Many pupils are loving getting to see their siblings too. They are aware that all improvements they have, such as knowing when to go for lunch, are actionable and reasonable to fix.

Be ready – Year 3 playing Gaelic football
Fri 24 Jan 2025The children in year 3 were treated to an extra sport session this week. We try to ensure the children play a range of sports and where possible introduce the children to a new sport. Today, a coach came in to deliver a session of Gaelic football. It was really fun. The children learnt how to pass and learnt some of the rules too. They will be having a few more sessions up until half term.

Caring for each other – Assembly this week
Fri 24 Jan 2025We used our assembly to talk to the children about OPAL again this week. We asked the children to think about what they feel is working well about OPAL and they shared what they have enjoyed so far. The children also shared what they haven’t enjoyed as much and what they feel could be improved further. We also introduced the new play equipment and types to the children. The children talked about pallets and planks. We discussed the potential be4nefits and how they could be used in play effectively. We also talked to the children about the potential risks and why they have to be careful and cautious when using them. They are all becoming more aware of the risks out side and discussing the benefits they feel they will have by playing with different items doing OPAL lunches. Thank you to Ellen (Jemima and Tamsin’s mum) who is doing a great job as a parent on the play team. Ellen arranged for some parents to come in to put up the music wall. It looks great and the children really enjoyed using it today. Just a quick note to say please could you try to avoid picking your child up for appointments etc… during lunchtime. The children have access to the whole site now at lunchtime which makes finding an individual quite challenging.

Growing together – International School Award
Mon 13 Jan 2025I would like to say a huge well done to Senora Lopez for her work on achieving the International School Award. Senora Lopez has collected a bank of evidence containing all the amazing things we do to support the children’s understanding of a modern foreign language. The children are all doing incredibly well in Spanish and often leave us moving into the top sets in secondary school. Our work during the Spanish Café, the work with the School for Hope in Guatemala and the Spanish festivals we cover have all supported our application.

Enrichment – Year 1 writing instructions
Mon 13 Jan 2025Well done to year 1 this week for their work in English. The children have been learning about instructions, how to write them and also the types of language they need to use. They started off the week trying to make a jam sandwich with some very unhelpful instructions which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They then had to follow a set of instructions to make a loaf of bread. It was tricky to do but the end product was amazing. A super way to enrich the children’s learning and a great way to teach instructions.

Be ready – foundation launch their space topic
Mon 13 Jan 2025It was great to see the children in foundation dressed up this week to launch their work on space and aliens. There were so many super space themes outfits and it was a super way to ensure the children were interested in their topic this half term. Thank you to all the foundation parents for supporting the foundation team with this.
