• Be ready – Year 2 Bright Time

  As mentioned previously, we have planned Bright Time for every year. This is to give the children experiences above and beyond the curriculum which help to enhance their personal development. This week, the children in year 2 started their Xylophone lessons. The children will all have ten weeks where they learn to read some music and how to play the instrument. We felt that the learning of and playing of musical instruments is not able to be covered massively within the curriculum and felt adding this would give every child the chance to develop the love of playing an instrument.

  

• Growing together – OPAL

  We would like to say a big thank you for all the donations of the loose parts. The children are really enjoying playing with them and creating dens, beauty salons, obstacle courses and castles. We would also like to say a big thank you to Ellen (Tamsin and Jemima’s mum) who sourced us a canoe this week. We will be holding an OPAL assembly to explain what they children can do with it and will hopefully have it as part of the provision from next week. Exciting!

   

  This week, the photos show a group of girls in year 4 having lots of fun making a den with the pallets and fabulous fun in the mud kitchen. It was nice to see some older children in their too.

  

• Caring about the environment – Eco committee meeting this week

  The Eco Committee has been working with plastic free Lady Bay to create some ideas for plastic free party decorations to encourage people to consider different options. They had a great time and these will be displayed as part of the Arts Trail this weekend. 

  

• Be Ready – Year 6 SATs

  There were no assemblies this week as the focus turned to the year 6 SATs. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the children in year 6 who worked their socks off and tired their hardest during the SATs. We are all so proud of them. Whatever their results, they have worked incredibly hard this year. Their dedication and commitment to their work and to attending boosters both inside and outside of school is commendable. Thank you to the all the staff who have worked with the children in year 6 over the years and for the dedication of the year 6 team this year. Fingers crossed the children get the outcomes they deserve. They all had a super time at the hook today too.

  We were also delighted to hand out the year 6 hoodies this week. They all look fantastic and I am sure they will get plenty of use over the next 9 weeks in school.

  

• Be Ready (Enrichment) – Year 1 trip to Warwick Castle

  What a fantastic trip to Warwick castle. The children were amazing and engaged positively in all the fun activities. They loved finding out about castle life, murder holes and what was used to fill the moat to put people off attacking the castle! The children enjoyed eating their lunches in the sunshine, whilst beautiful birds of prey swooped close over their heads. All children showed impressive determination when climbing hundreds of steps to reach the top of the very tall tower. To finish the day the children enjoyed meeting Zog himself and a fun play session on the Zog Adventure Playground! What an amazing day!

  

• Be Ready – Boys’ Rushcliffe Cup

  The boys played St Edmund Campion on Tuesday on the Semi-final of the Rushcliffe cup. It was a good game and the boys played some excellent football. It was a super 4-0 victory which ensured their place in the final which was played last night. We played against a very strong Heyman side. The boys were all outstanding and won the final 2-0. Special mention to Reuben for stepping in goal for the injured Fin and playing brilliantly. Well done boys, the second trophy of the year.

  

• Be Ready – Girls’ football tournament

  Mon 12 May 2025

  The girls football attended the Ruddington tournament on Saturday. We had a few that could not make it and Sophie and Sophia stood in for them form year 4. The girls all played realty well and had super attitudes throughout. On this occasion, the girls came runners up with only 1 team moving out of the group stage. Well done to all those who took part and to Ms Hewitt for coaching the team on the day.

  

• Be Ready – Year 5 visit the air raid shelter

  To support their understanding of their topic on World War 2, the children in year 5 walked to the air raid shelter in West Bridgford yesterday. It was fitting that this happened on VE day too. The children learnt about what life was life during the war and in particular the Blitz. The children discussed what it would have been like living in a time of war and how cramped and difficult it would have been sharing such a small place with lots of other people. A really interesting way to enrich the curriculum and a great way to bring history to life.

  

• Be Ready – Assembly this week

  This week, we used our assembly to talk to the children about VE day. We asked the children what they knew about VE day and why it is important that we talk about and remember the end of the Second World War. We discussed with the children the impact of the war, the fact that millions of people throughout Europe lost their lives and the social impact of the war too. We also asked the children to wear red, white and blue on Thursday. This was an opportunity for the children to show their support and understanding of VE day and we took part in a 2-minute silence to ask the children to think about those that lost their lives during the war.

  

• Be Ready (Enrichment) – Year 3 trip to Creswell Crags

  The children in year 3 really enjoyed their trip to Creswell Crags this week. They had a Stone Age survival skills session where the children had fun making dens. They had a session inside where they assembled skeleton remains from Stone Age animals and spent time in the caves (where Stone Age people lived. A fantastic trip.
