Be Ready – Year 5 WW2 homework
Mon 24 Nov 2025I was totally blown away by the quality of the year 5 homework this week. The children were given two weeks to create a project on something that particularly interested them from World War 2. The effort and details they have included is outstanding. There was work on the role of women during World War 2, information on the blitz, a suitcase that a child would have had on the Kinder transport with a letter from them, information on battles during the war, comprehensive information on rationing and even personal information from one child’s family who had children staying with their grandparents. A truly fantastic project and we are so proud of the amount of effort the children have put in creating them.

Caring for the environment – Eco Committee meeting
Mon 24 Nov 2025The Eco Committee met last week to move the two planters into the foundation garden and set them up. We used the money raised last year for the Eco Committee. The Committee will also be meeting next week to learn about planting bulbs. They are hoping to get the whole school involved in this too. Well done Eco Committee.

Be Kind – Assembly this week
Mon 24 Nov 2025In our assembly this week, we talked to the children about mutual respect and tolerance. We read the story ‘Elmer’ to the children in year 1 and ‘The Island’ to the children in years 3-6. We discussed the characters in the books and the way they were treated by others. We asked the children to put themselves in the shoes of the character and to describe how they would feel in that situation. We also asked them to consider how they would have acted in that situation if they were one of the other characters in the books and how we should treat people who are different to you. A really important and powerful assembly asking the children to think about how we show mutual respect and tolerance towards others.

Be Ready – Foundation Art
Mon 24 Nov 2025Well done to the children in foundation for their amazing art work this week. The foundation topic this half term is Winter Wonderland. The children created some Andy Warhol inspired pictures of animals who live in colder climates. They all tried really hard and the finished piece with all their artwork together is amazing. Well done to all the foundation children.

Growing together – OPAL
Mon 24 Nov 2025Although it has been very cold this week, it has been lovely to have a full week of OPAL without any interruptions. All the leadership roles are up and running and it has been great ot see the librarians and litter pickers hard at work. I have included a picture of the set up on the upper school playground this week. I just wanted to thank Mr. Dearnley for all he does and the children who support him getting everything ready for OPAL. It runs really smoothly because of their hard work. There is loads that needs setting up on the lower school playground too and their hard work does not go unnoticed.

Be Ready – Year 4 work on circuits
Mon 24 Nov 2025The children in year 4 have been busy working out how to create circuits in science this week. They have been learning about electricity and electrical safety and how to create a circuit. They learnt the different symbols and how to draw a circuit then created this using the correct equipment. It took a bit of trial and error but they all managed to get the lamp working. They will be using this knowledge to complete their D and T projects at Christmas – exciting. Well done year 4

Be Safe and Caring for each other – Year 4 and Foundation Bright time
Thu 20 Nov 2025This week, the children in Year 4 took part in their ‘Bright time’. All the children became mini-first aiders and learnt the skills needed to save someone’s life. They learnt about DR ABC and how to resuscitate someone. Although it is not part of the curriculum, we have made it part of our bespoke offering as we believe it so important that we teach this to our children as they may need to save a life one day. We also introduce it to the children in foundation as a starting point on how to keep safe and what to do in an emergency which also makes part of their ‘Bright time’. A fantastic day and a really important one too.

Be Ready – year 5 visitors from the Holocaust centre
Thu 20 Nov 2025To support their learning about World War 2, we welcomed visitors from the National Holocaust centre this week. The children in year 5 learnt about the Kindertransport and how Jewish people were treated in Nazi Germany. They listened to different stories about what happened to different people and also heard some survivor stories too. The work also reinforced their understanding of what discrimination is and tired to get them to reflect on what it must have been like to life during that period of time. A really thought-provoking day and one that truly enriches their topic work.

Be Ready – Year 1 topic work
Thu 20 Nov 2025To enrich this half term’s topic work on toys, we were delighted to invite some of our grandparents in to talk to the children about toys they played with when they were the same age. Leah and Maeve’s Grandmas talked to the children about the different toys they had and showed them some too. The children enjoyed looking at the toys and had the chance to handle the toys carefully. The children learnt lots of interesting facts. Thanks to Leah and Maeve’s grandmas for giving up their time.

Growing together – Remembrance Day
Thu 20 Nov 2025Thank you again for supporting us with raising money for Remembrance Day. We have talked to the children this week about their understanding of Remembrance Day and why it is important that we think about those that lost their lives for our country. As Roxanne in year 5 stated, “They gave their tomorrow for our today”. We all took part in a 2-minute silence on Tuesday to think about what we had learnt and why the day was important.
